Exploring the New Moon in Gemini and Transpersonal Astrology

Volume 2 | Transits and Sher School of Astrology

This week, I’m excited to further explore the growing field of Transpersonal Astrology with you, which aims to expand individual consciousness and align spiritual growth with your unique nature.

But first, let's focus on the current transits. As I write this, we are at the end of a Moon cycle and preparing for a new one. Let’s discuss.

New Moon in Gemini

Every New Moon creates a new 29-day cycle, but some of these cycles create more new conditions than others. This particular New Moon does exactly that, as not only are the Sun and Moon in Gemini, but there are three more planets in that sign as well: Mercury, Venus, and Jupiter. This means that we are moving from a dominance of planets in slow and steady Taurus to the much more communicative and open sign of Gemini.

Gemini loves and needs to take in new information and then express it to the world in some way. People with many Gemini planets are often writers, reporters, journalists, and involved in marketing. In our present time period, they are often active in social media, creating videos for YouTube, TikTok, and the other platforms available to us. Thus, this New Moon cycle encourages us to explore the many ways we might put our attention on how we might expand our presence in the world and communicate our message to others, whether this be publicly, in our work, or with friends and family.

Moon Square Saturn

In addition, Saturn at 18° Pisces squares the New Moon. Saturn is the planet that asks us to structure and plan our approach to life’s needs and work on whatever weaknesses we may have. It is the planet that demands we become realistic and make plans that are practical so these can be manifested and realized. If we don’t, there will be consequences that will force us to fix whatever mistakes or missed steps that have been left out. This can be difficult for Gemini, as it wants to stay on the surface and act on whatever it wants without concern for the effects it might be creating. This is especially true since Mars is in spontaneous and risk-taking Aries. In other words, if we just hit the go button without any plan, we may find ourselves in trouble and having to backtrack.

Asking Gemini to slow down could be met with resistance, but it will help if they can recognize that going a bit more slowly will actually save them time.

Pluto Leading

The last kernel of this New Moon is that Pluto is the leading planet of this chart type, which suggests two things to me. The first is that despite the lightness of Gemini, there can be an intensity that belies its casual nature. But secondly, it portends that whatever develops in this New Moon can be far more transformative than one can see at first. All New Moons have phases. The New Moon itself plants the seed of a new cycle, followed by the 1st quarter Moon which asks us to act on the new seed. Then comes the Full Moon, where realizations can be made as to what is coming to fulfillment, after which is the 3rd quarter Moon a week later when we begin to process what we have learned so far.

In one month, we will have a New Moon in Cancer and another new cycle will begin.

Back to Transpersonal Astrology

These transits are perfectly aligned with exploring the world of Transpersonal Astrology. First developed by Dane Rudhyar in 1930, this field paralleled the development of transpersonal psychology in the works of Carl Jung, Roberto Assagioli, and others.

In my practice as a therapist, I have used this approach for many years and have taught it for the past 20 years. I have found that students, though initially surprised, embrace it with interest and enthusiasm.

Let's get into the basic principles of Transpersonal Astrology:

  1. It’s Syncretic

Transpersonal Astrology combines various fields like psychology, metaphysics, and quantum physics, connecting humanity's historical growth with future evolution.

  2. Focused on Evolution

Unlike traditional astrology's emphasis on forecasting events, Transpersonal Astrology centers on individual and societal evolution through experiential learning.

  3. Accounts for Language Limitations

Recognizing the limits of language, Transpersonal Astrology emphasizes understanding beyond words to grasp deeper archetypal principles.

  4. Values Inquiry Over Answers

Transpersonal Astrology encourages contemplation and questioning to experience growth beyond existing beliefs and mental understanding.

  5. Makes the Unconscious

    Conscious
Inspired by Carl Jung, Transpersonal Astrology helps uncover hidden aspects of ourselves, leading to greater authenticity.

  6. Involved with the Process of Transformation

Transpersonal Astrology guides us into new states of consciousness, beyond personal identity, fostering deep contemplation and growth.

  7. Helps to Expand Your Understanding

Transpersonal Astrology broadens our understanding of our nature and reality, shifting our perspectives on ourselves and the world.

  8. Examines Fate vs. Free Will

Transpersonal Astrology explores this profound question, encouraging personal discovery and new insights into astrology's impact on freedom.

Inspiration for Your Journey

Ordinarily, we think of being a hero as something that happens to only a few brave people. We don’t usually think of ourselves as being capable of that. Joseph Campbell, the famous scholar, took the view that each of us can become heroic in our own way. This short video expresses a glimpse of this idea that ennobles all of us if we make the effort.
